Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism made him speechless and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
